We can sometimes get permission to use the Marys Peak camping area after the campgrounds officially close. This gives an introduction to snow camping without too much snow. By December there is usually enough snow for sledding. There are a variety of trails around the area for use at all times of the year.
CanoeingThe Oregon Dunes allow for lots of hiking. Honeyman state park has group sites as well as smaller camp sites. There is a freshwater lake as well as sand dunes. Lots of dune-diving and simple water activities.
Camporee is a multi-unit competitive event held in May. If possible, bring in a group of scouts on the previous weekend to help with site selection and preperation. Excellent campout to invite Webelos to.
This is a site that we can get after the official closing date in exchange for a service project.
River's Edge is located on the Alsea Rd., Rt 34, on the left near milepost 23. There is a large covered area with picnic tables, a fireplace and grills for charcoal cooking. The area borders the Alsea River. There is a large, open, mowed field between the covered area and the river which is great for games. If they wish, scouts and adults will be able to fish for salmon in the Alsea or Fall Creek, a short drive away. Fishing will require appropriate licences.
